In lieu of a holiday, books can be a great way to get away
It would be ideal if we could jaunt off on a ferry to exciting vacation destinations any time we felt like it. Unfortunately for most people this is not a valid reality. We work too hard and have too many obligations in this modern world. Books provide a wonderful way for us to get away from it all for a little while each day. Hopefully you have made time for reading each day ever since you were a kid, even if only for fifteen minutes. Reading can become like a daily form of meditation or prayer for me. You should still manage to take a ferry holiday once every year or two as well; but reading can help to tide you over and reduce stress levels from day to day. Whether you prefer non-fiction or fiction books, there are endless titles out there to entertain you and help unburden your mind. Whether you prefer mystery novels, romance novels, detective novels, science fiction novels, fantasy novels or dramatic novels there are so many authors and stories out there to fill your days and/or nights with wonder. Perhaps you prefer non-fiction. Many people, especially men, often feel that reading something completely fictitious is a waste of time. Whether you feel this way or not, non-fiction can be equally as relaxing, and can be a wonderful way to learn new skills or research your next holiday on a ferry to Ireland or France or the Netherlands.
Five Years in New Zealand
There are many self help books available these days as well. Probably more than there should be. Many of them can be a bit cheesy or flaky sounding so you want to make sure to get a recommendation from someone you trust or peruse the text before purchasing it. There are a lot of great ones available out there as well though. Dealing directly with stress, lack of motivation, depression or whatever is ailing you by reading and learning about it is a great and relaxing way to confront the problems and negative stress patterns in your life. Books are an incredibly affordable way to relieve stress as well; definitely cheaper than a ferry ticket to Norway or Belgium. Although the cost of the ferry is well worth it when you consider how delicious the fine chocolate is that you'll be eating in Belgium, or how beautiful the fjords of Norway can be in the misty morning light from the deck of the ferry.
In the Heart of Africa
You can find great deals on used texts both online and at your local bookstores. There is also something more romantic to me about reading books that have been previously read. New texts are very reasonably priced as well however. If there is a text you think or know that you may want to keep in your library purchasing a new copy is probably a good idea so it will stand up to years of use and the spray of the ocean as you read from the ferry deck when you do get to take a real holiday.
